CAMILLE MAURINE is the author of Meditation Secrets for Women and Meditation 24/7, written with her husband, Dr. Lorin Roche. A teacher since 1975, Camille's innovative energy-based movement, meditation, and theater practices have touched and inspired thousands of people around the globe.
Camille is a pioneer in developing the applied psychology of the future, in which people will practice meditation techniques that balance their body chemistry and emotions and prevent trouble before it arises. She is a world authority on the techniques of meditation for women, and how each woman can customize the practices to suit her body type, emotional nature, and daily life. Meditation is a powerful tool, deeply affecting your body chemistry, your emotions, and your perceptions. This is why "meditate right for your type" is an important and useful concept.
Camille trained and performed as a modern dancer in Chicago, New York, and Santa Fe, also studying a rich array of ethnic dance forms, including classical Indian, Middle Eastern, African, Japanese, and Flamenco. She attended St. Xavier College, DePauw University, and NYU School of the Arts. She studied improvisational theater at Second City in Chicago in the early 70's (taking the "L" with classmate Bill Murray), and performed in their theater for children.
After Camille started meditating in 1972, she became interested in the inner dimensions of movement, eventually teaching meditation and body awareness in the context of her dance classes. Her training in the healing arts includes twelve years as a practitioner of Essential Integration body therapy (1977-1989) and Continuum movement since 1983. She has been involved with Transcendental Meditation, Yoga, Zen and Tibetan Buddhism, as well as the study of Jungian depth psychology and dreamwork. Over the years, Camille has traveled extensively to give performances and seminars at C.G. Jung Institutes and other international psychology, art, somatics, and spiritually-oriented conferences.
Camille Maurine's transformative approach to inner exploration and creativity integrates the fields of meditation, yoga, dance, and theater. Her work, called kinAesthetics, is about the interplay between subtle energy sensing, deep fluid movement, and dynamic expression. Her Moving Theater performance classes focus on accessing one's inner life through various awareness practices, and then creatively expressing those revelations in movement, sound, and speech. This embodied attention tunes one to living with an aesthetic sensibility, a rich sensory awareness of reality as an unfolding artful creation.
Camille teaches at the Continuum Studio in Santa Monica, California, offering private sessions, workshops for women, and Moving Theater classes for men and women. She creates one-woman shows and directs CoMMiT (Camille Maurine's Moving Theater), an improvisational performance group. She travels worldwide to give performances and workshops. Camille and Lorin also give workshops and retreats together in meditation, movement, and expression.

LORIN ROCHE received his Ph.D. in Social Science from the University of California at Irvine in 1987. His dissertation was about the maps that meditators develop to navigating their inner worlds and the language they come up with to describe their experiences. His Master's Degree work focused on the hazards of meditation and the crisis points in a meditator's development.
Dr. Roche has been exploring, researching and teaching meditation since 1968, becoming a teacher of Transcendental Meditation. Over the years he has been developing an approach, which he calls Instinctive Meditation, that works with the fine structure of individual uniqueness, rather than imposing a standardized approach. He draws on insights into how people learn gained from the cognitive sciences, the Himalayan meditation tradition that TM is based on, Jungian dream work, and Tai Chi. This integrative approach results in simple ways for people to learn many different meditation techniques.
Instinctive Meditation tends to feel more like an innate skill that you are remembering than a technique that you are learning. Lorin's work is aimed at activating an individual's internal guidance systems and bringing forth your instinctive knowing, so that you can safely practice meditation without being dependent upon Gurus, systems or external authorities.
Other books by Lorin Roche include: Meditation Made Easy, Breath Taking, and Whole Body Meditations. Meditation Made Easy is now available in Spanish, Portuguese, and Dutch. Meditation Secrets for Women has been translated for German, Dutch, Czechslovakian, and Japanese readers.
Lorin and Camille give workshops and retreats together such as Wild Serenity and Meditation and the Life of Passion, which are about enhancing self-awareness and intimacy in love, work, and play. Their new book and CD, Meditation 24/7, came out in Fall 2004 from Andrews McMeel Publishing.
